Social Cognitive Psychology Analysis
Our website analyzes fictional characters through a social cognitive lens and aims to aid people in finding psychological connections to characters they see in these popular media.
We hope that by making these cognitive associations, people can create connections between their own perceptive tendencies and modes of thinking, ultimately developing personal understanding and empathy.
Cognitive Theory/Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
Origination
Using Carl Jung's theory as basis, Myers and Briggs developed MBTI (personality test) to speculate people interactions using Jung's functions—sensing, intuition, thinking, feeling—plus two additions of judging and perceiving.
Jungian Cognitive Functions
Jung originally identified the two perceiving functions—sensation and intuition—and two judging functions—thinking and feeling. A person will have a dominant function, following with auxiliary, tertiary, and inferior functions. Each function can either be demonstrated extraverted or introverted (e.g. an introvert's dominant function would be introverted, with an extraverted being the auxiliary, then introverted, and extraverted). This typological model was utilized in the MBTI.
Common Misconceptions
social intro-/extra-version vs. cognitive intro-/extra-version:
when addressing cognitive theory, this refers to the intro-/extra-version of the dominant function (i.e. cognitive), not whether one prefers to socialize (i.e. social).
MBTI vs. Cognitive Functions:
MBTI refers to the indicator, or test, that derived from Jung's cognitive functions. Within the analyses of this blog, we will be utilizing on Jung's typological model, which is more of a metric, not the personality test.

Types and Functions
dominant function · auxiliary function · tertiary function · inferior function
-- dominant function is the core strength. auxiliary function supports the dominant for balance. tertiary is less developed and assists auxiliary in exploring unnatural aspects in life. inferior is the least developed and can often challenge the dominant in immature ways. --
INTJ
Ni · Te · Fi · Se
Dominantly perceives with introverted intuition (Ni), in which they perceive abstract concepts, theories, and insights with ease, many being able to synthesize these theories to accurately predict future outcomes and find purpose. Their auxiliary function is extraverted thinking (Te), leading them to make decisions based on objective criteria, empirical data, and evidence. Extraverted thinking seeks consistency in external rules to solve issues.

Ni · Fe · Ti · Se
Dominantly perceives with introverted intuition (Ni), in which they perceive abstract concepts, theories, and insights with ease, many being able to synthesize these theories to accurately predict future outcomes and find purpose. Their auxiliary function is extraverted feeling (Fe), which leads them adjust their actions and emotions to the social context, working to maintain social harmony and peace. They often make decisions to accommodate shared feelings, rather than their own.

ISTJ
Si · Te · Fi · Ne
Dominantly judges with introverted sensing (Si), in which they use past memories and routines to guide their decisions and worldview. This leads them to adhere to familiar and expected routine to ensure stability. Their auxiliary function is extraverted thinking (Te), leading them to make decisions based on objective criteria, empirical data, and evidence. Extraverted thinking seeks consistency in external rules to solve issues.

ISTP
Ti · Se · Ni · Fe
Dominantly judges and makes with introverted thinking (Ti), using impersonal analysis to create internal logical frameworks, considering multiple angles and applying leverage to concepts in a detached manner to identify logical systems. Their auxiliary function is extraverted sensing (Se), causing perception to be oriented towards direct observation of the present, external world. This leads them to be primarily concerned with and especially aware of the present situation, rather than dwelling about the past or future.

Ti · Ne · Si · Fe
Dominantly judges with introverted thinking (Ti), using impersonal analysis to create internal logical frameworks, considering multiple angles and applying leverage to concepts in a detached manner, to identify logical systems.
Their auxiliary function is extraverted intuition (Ne), causing perception to be oriented towards theoretical possibilities and allowing them to form connections between abstract concepts, discern hidden patterns, and generate original ideas.
INFP
Fi · Ne · Si · Te
Dominantly perceives with introverted feeling (Fi) to make decisions based on a personal system of values and morals, seeking internal harmony. Empathy is especially easy to maintain for Fi users as they value their relationships by connecting another's situation to themselves. Their auxiliary function is extraverted intuition (Ne), causing perception to be oriented towards theoretical possibilities and allowing them to form connections between abstract concepts, discern hidden patterns, and generate original ideas.
